What if your cup of coffee could change someone's life?

OUR MISSION

We are not-for-profit Social Enterprise with a very simple
purpose: to give those people who have fallen on difficult
times a skill and an opportunity to get back into paid work.

We are not-for-profit Social Enterprise with a very simple purpose: to give those people who have fallen on difficult times a skill and an opportunity to get back into paid work.

In partnership with Modern Standard Coffee, we have created a Barista Academy where we train people to become skilled baristas, giving them a qualification at the end of the course and then a job on London Living Wage as minimum.

We have a bold vision to make a positive difference in our community, and Bloom was born with the aim to change the world around us.  We want to give those people referred to us not only a new skill and qualification, but to build their self-confidence, dignity and give them the opportunity to start a new chapter, to write a new story.

We have partnered with church and charity, The Salvation Army, whose Employment Plus and homelessness services refer people to us.

The Salvation Army have a long and reputed history of helping transform the lives of society’s most vulnerable and marginalised people. They help people experiencing homelessness, those living with addiction, facing unemployment or feeling isolated and alone.

The Salvation Army’s Employment Plus supports people who are unemployed to become job-ready, land employment and stay in work.

Bloom and The Salvation Army are the perfect partnership for the purpose we have set out. The Salvation Army offers practical help, unconditional assistance and support for the people they refer to us, prior, during training and once in employment. At Bloom, we have 40 years’ experience in the catering and coffee industries to give people practical skills, experience and qualifications. With compassion, empathy, care and support, we aim to ‘give a hand up, not a hand out’!

In the words of Catherine Booth – Co Founder of The Salvation Army:

“There is no reward equal to that of doing the most good to the most people in the most need.”

This isn’t just our story; it’s yours too.  Your cup of coffee can change someone’s life.

TRAINING

Coffee is big business in the UK and it isn’t set to decrease any time soon. With over 25,000 coffee shops in the UK and over 400 billion cups of coffee consumed every year, it is vital that our training goes above and beyond so that our newly trained baristas stand out.

Coffee is big business in the UK and it isn’t set to decrease any time soon. With over 25,000 coffee shops in the UK and over 400 billion cups of coffee consumed every year, it is vital that our training goes above and beyond so that our newly trained baristas stand out.

Our Head of Coffee has been in the coffee industry for nearly 10 years, and in that time has been a head barista, trainer, barista championship winner,  and delivered presentations for customers and clients based on his wide knowledge of the coffee industry.

Certified by the Specialty Coffee Association to deliver training in the modules of their curriculum, and in turn deliver these modules to get our trainees ready for the fast-paced environment of coffee shop service.

WE HAVE A STRUCTURED TRAINING COURSE THAT INCLUDES:

In addition, our trainee baristas will get hands-on work experience, speak to other established baristas in the industry, and be taken on coffee forages to get insights into the experience different coffee houses offer. Our training typically lasts 6 weeks, however we recognise that everyone we work with have different needs.

We bespoke and adjust the course to every individual, ensuring that they are comfortable with the pace. At the end of this journey the trainees will be ready for anything that the coffee industry can throw at them, and will have the knowledge and confidence to support them on their new path in the coffee sector.

OUR COFFEE

Great coffee for everyone

Great coffee for everyone

Modern Standard are our biggest supporters, not only sponsoring our training academy, but also roasting Bloom’s unique coffee. Our coffee blends have been carefully chosen to not only taste great, but to also be directly traded with coffee farmers at source to give them the best deal possible.

The Bloom coffee is ethically sourced and directly traded, cutting out the middle man and reducing transportation. The training, the experience, the equipment and up-scaling so that we can increase our positive impact on our community.

Our INSPIRE blend has been chosen to not only taste great as an espresso, but to also work with milky drinks too.

“Our aim through The Bloom Coffee Academy is to train, educate and support people who have fallen on hard times, to give them a barista skill and professional SCA qualifications.

Once qualified, we will support them in getting into employment. We recognise that every person is different and so treat them with compassion, care and patience.”
